4  General Discussion / Technical Discussion / Off the grid computer on: March 25, 2013, 10:53:41 am
Hi i wonder if anyoner ever managed to accomblish making an off the grid computer? Im thinking lets assume i go into the woods for a week, and i want the computer to have power that i can use it on and off during the entire week.

Like it should be possible with solar panels, but maybe it will take too much room, that you cant carry all the other stuff you need to survive. Ofcourse it should be able to be mobile too.
So have anyone made any thoughts about that?
5  General Discussion / Offtopic/Spam/Flamebait / Re: Libraries? Useful or not? on: February 10, 2013, 09:34:18 am
Libraries a very good, i dont use them much but when i use them i appreciate it alot that they are there.
In these moderen days they also provides free (sponsered by taxmoney) acces to a printer, scanner and internet.
In the city i live in there are 7 libraries.

About steamcars:
It says here
http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aacarssteama.htm
that
Quote
Steam engines added so much weight to a vehicle that they proved a poor design for road vehicles; however, steam engines were very successfully used in locomotives
So if we can use some lightweight materials they didnt have back then maybe it could be possible. But it would proberbly be pricy.
Maybe magnesium alloys can do the trick
http://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=355

For a comparison we have for example here
2000 USD for 1 ton of steel alloy
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/590923078/steel_alloy_4130.html

And here 3000 USD for 1 ton of magnesium alloy:

10  General Discussion / News Items / Frankenfish on: December 26, 2012, 11:17:19 am
Now you can maybe in the nearest future buy the Genetically modified organism Frankenfish in your local store if you live in the US.
http://rt.com/usa/news/genetically-frankenfish-fda-fish-609/

It will be cheap and give out a good profit if they can get the permission to sell it.
11  General Discussion / General Discussion / Re: World Without Oil on: December 18, 2012, 07:40:42 pm
If we want to get off oil then maybe we should get off oil. Why can't we build a solar powered electric car, a steam car, a chemical reaction engine, nitrogen, a hybrid that uses anything BUT oil? Yeah its not easy... and there are people against you but it can be done. It sure beats sitting in a forum all day complaining about how nobody does anything and nothing can be done.

Just for kicks maybe we should see how much money and time and resources it would take to make something like that.
Car without oil? Those things are not a thing of the future, the technology already exist. All you need from now on is just money. And a strong determination that allows you to only fuel up your car where you live .. for now.

And I don't feel sleeping next to the compostable toilet either... You know, that smalle tends to waft upwards? Wink
Thats why they made them mobile Cheesy

In all seriousness if they are too small, can you not just then buy two? Oh yes you dont need two kitchens and two toilets etc, but maybe they can make a module where those things are not there.
14  General Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Real expectation of privacy on the internet? on: December 13, 2012, 12:35:15 pm
Nothing on the interweb is private anymore. But they will only dig deep into you if they find out you are doing suspicious behaviour.

So its better to hide any suspicious behaviour than to hide your random behaviour.
