Man-on-man touching is not exactly encouraged in the U.S. armed forces. But, in the Pentagon, at least, there's been a sudden outbreak of all-male embraces; the boys in the five-sided building have started hugging.

Funny, but still, people ought to take physical contact more seriously. It's not "gay" in any way, and even if it was, there's nothing wrong with being gay, and only guys who are unsure of their sexuality would think so. Even the most hug friendly of my friends shy away after a few seconds, which is too bad because it's a way of communicating that's lacking in our society. Some westerners visiting Africa, for example, might feel uncomfortable when the men there insists on walking around hand-in-hand with them, but why would that be wrong? It's just yet another stupid rule that has no logical or reasonable justification. There's nothing wrong with touching, there's nothing wrong with closeness and there's nothing wrong with feeling good.

You see touching is sinful and men touching men is even more sinful because it's like a couple sins merged into one big nasty mortal sin. That is unless you're a priest.

All I know is that when my Dad got back from the Sandpit, he loved a hug.

I can definitely sympathize with your dad Outsider. I'm over in the pit for the second time right now. I would love a hug when I get back from this place, someone to tell me the old lie that everything's gonna be alright. A hug should never be underestimated, it can tell someone you actually care about them. It can say that everything's gonna be ok. Cup a cheek though, as was said earlier, and its pushing it a little. You know, fine lines and all that

I joke but I think that a hug is a very powerful tool to make people feel better. Never underestimate the healing power of that.

You are going to hate me for saying this but many of those same guys who walk hand in hand have some pretty odd habits. They may not see anything wrong with having unprotected sex with underaged girls or urinating in public. And before you chime in with some sort of labelling of me for saying this, there have been many studies showing that HIV infected men in southern africa usually have a mean full blows aids age of 35 while the women have a mean full blow aids age of 25. This is because it takes 10 years to move from HIV infection to full blown AIDS. It also means that 25 year old blokes are having sex with 15 year old girls. Not PC, but based on an Anglo American study. So IMHO a little less touchy would be a good thing in africa. This is also the only place in the world where babies get raped by their uncles just because mummy has gone to work/shops. http://www.mg.co.za/articlePage.aspx?articleid=304811&area=/insight/insight__national/. So using this as your yardstick for human interaction is a little inappropriate. Best that people show a little respect and keep their paws to themselves if you ask me.
