On Saturday I watched a double feature of The Omega Man and Soylent Green.  And then this happens.. Geez.  Charlton Heston will always live in my heart for the great films he has made that have brought me so much inspiration and entertainment to my life throughout the years.

Charlton Heston (October 4, 1923 – April 5, 2008)[1][2][3] was an American Academy Award-winning film actor.

Heston was known for playing heroic roles, such as Moses in The Ten Commandments, Colonel George Taylor in Planet of the Apes and Judah Ben-Hur in Ben-Hur. Early in his career, he was one of a handful of Hollywood actors to speak out against racism and was active in the civil rights movement. During the latter part of his movie career, he starred in films such as The Omega Man and Soylent Green, which have a strong environmental message. He was president of the National Rifle Association from 1998 to 2003.

Charlton Heston: A Tribute in Youtube Clips

April 06, 2008 12:02 PM

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., today issued a statement about the death of actor Charlton Heston.

"In taking on epic and commanding roles, he showed himself to be one of our nation's most gifted actors, and his legacy will forever be a part of our cinema," McCain said. "Off-the-screen, Charlton Heston was also a real-life leader. He served his country and proudly gave his voice in support of some of our most basic rights. He was devoted to the cause of freedom for all Americans from the battle for civil rights in the 1960s to protecting Second Amendment rights in the 1990s. At this time of grief, let us honor a life that has truly touched millions."

**

Heston was "I am Legend' before Will Smith, as "The Omega Man."

He was Judah Ben-Hur.

He was Moses -- he parted the Red Sea!

"Fear not," he said. "Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord."

He told us that soylent green is people.

He yelled at a "damn dirty ape" to take his "stinking paws" off him. And later, he wept on the beach for what humans did to the planet.

Active in the civil rights movement in the early 1960s, he became active in the gun rights movement in the 1980s, explaining his position in a speech to the NRA in 1989.

He later proclaimed that the government could only get his gun if they took it from his cold dead hands.

For that, he was mocked by Michael Moore and George Clooney.

What did you think of him?

I was very upset about Michael Moore setting up an old man to further his bank roll. Ambush journalism. Especially a man who championed the 2nd.

As for John McCain, I think he is trying to further his career by riding the coat tails of his death. Perhaps they were friends before this, and if so I take it back, but if not, I don't like him using Heston's death to make himself look better.

He was a mixed bag, mostly good. He was great for the 2nd amendment and the civil rights movement but he wasn't too great for the 1st amendment. ;-)

I don't see it as a contradiction, or as any kind of attack or infringement on the First Amendment.  Ice-T has the right to make a song with those lyrics.  People have a right to take offense at the lyrics.  The offended people have a right to voice their opinions about the lyrics.  The record company has a right to drop an artist if they think the artist will end up hurting their business.

I guess they both have the right to do what they want and say what they want. I have no problem with either of them but I do have a problem with Time Warner not standing by their decision to support Ice-T in spite of Mr. Heston. They buckled showing that corporations really have no back bone and will go where ever the money is easiest.

I also have trouble understanding Michael Moore. I liked some of the stuff he's said and done in the past but there is other stuff that really turns me off. I don't think his foundation for his principles is the same as mine.

Michael Moore is great at pointing out problems and piss poor at pointing out solutions.

Michael Moore is great at pointing out problems and piss poor at point out solutions.
He also seems to excel at making him self look like either a hero or martyr while doing absolutely nothing.
I've always thought that Michael Moore does a huge disservice to people who agree with Michael Moore.

Is anyone else having trouble getting Google videos to play?
