With my 3 year old son about to start some preschool, I got interested in the local scum and decided to streamline the existing online sex offender registry information into a printable format to share with local schools, teachers, other parents and for public posting. As I browsed and saved all the local faces, it turns out one of them was in my house doing plumbing work 3 months earlier... wuddaya know?
I would encourage anybody with the ability to do this for their own community. The online database is just too big. Narrow it down and put faces to names in your immediate area. Information is power. Most of these fuckers pray on children... and for every 90+ I get printed up, there are probably hundreds more who haven't been caught yet.
Community is the answer. Kill your TV. Have a beer with the neighbor.

Wog-out.

True, it's always good to know your local registered sex offenders. However, anyone could be "scum". You never know who may or may not do something with your kids/family. Knowing your neighbors, knowing your community and teaching your kids what's inappropriate is a good idea.

Gotta be careful about that.  Technically, in some states, an 18 year old boy banging his 16 year old girlfriend can be labeled a "sex offender" -- painted with a broad brush that includes real sexual predators.  Sad, but that's how our justice system works.

Just sayin', while it's good to know where the scumbags live in your area, remember that victims of the system exist in all categories.

I'm not saying this to defend them.  I'm saying this because I've seen it firsthand in one of my prior lines of work.  Certain kinds of people NEED to be labeled as such so they can be watched for dangerous behavior.  But others, their crime just doesn't warrant that kind of scrutiny, but the way the government and the law works, if "X" is the charge and conviction, then the convict is labeled a "Y", and there is very little wiggle room.  So pervs who cross dress and spank the monkey (but actually hurt no one) are lumped into the same category as child molesters.

Be wary of where the line has NOT been drawn when you decide to target these people.  Many of their lives have already been ruined by themselves, or the state, or both.  No need to make it any worse.

And in two states that I know of, if you say or do some thing stupid around this subject, it could get the public access pulled for it.

I'm going to agree with Scott here.  Get to know your neighbors, even if they're screwed up.  And here in my state, what Scott said does apply, the cross dressing panty sniffers are being given psych. tests to see if they're danger to society,

Maybe someone else from Oregon or Washington state can say more...

Also our online data bases have their type of sex crimes listed, so you know if it is, what it is and some times from what jurisdiction.

I agree with both of you. There is also a certain level of hysteria that can come about if the subject is handled in the wrong way publicly. If it is fear-driven, we are asking for trouble... but the criteria for my list was fairly strict. It was by no means a just a 'post any old sex offender on the list'; sort of endeavor. Every person on the list I made had sexual contact with a child under 18, but in most cases under 14. I skipped almost everyone with convictions for internet pornography, or in an age group that could, by their conviction dates, possibly put them in one of the gray areas of the law that you guys touched on.

My son is being raised to fend for himself and I believe that I will raise a wog that will do just that, but he's 3 years old and I can't watch him all the time. I want the level of awareness to be raised with his caregivers. It also helps that we live in a very small community. I have no intention of singling these people out, only to spread the information of what they are capable of.

The word 'scumbag' seems to set people off too... I'm just not very PC about this(or any other) subject. The way I see it, a guy who has 3 rape convictions and has abused children is a SCUMBAG. I'm not gonna tip-toe around that. Although I have some problems with Sean Kennedy's .69 cent solution, I certainly see his point, and in some cases agree with it.

Its good to hear your not including the 15 vs 15 year old under age sex, (some states that can be classified sex offense.) and other minor areas.  These people your discussing are people who deserve to get noticed but not have hell fire down in the wrong way.

But you do not have to be PC, just be smart.  Putting the information out in the wrong way, will just get your access to information pulled.

There is nothing wrong with protecting your son Alemaker.. But it is how you treat that information, that is important.
