The guy may already know about it but I was wondering if anyone had got a hold of who ever runs the NewsReal mirror at http://rantmedia.hausvontech.net/newsreal/ ?

For some odd reason any time I try to download a file from this mirror the file randomly hangs.

Of course... it could be a problem on my end.

Hey fatNINJA,
That'd be me.  I know that a couple people have had problems with getting files, but I've no idea what the issue is. I'd like to not jump to assuming it's an issue with something between us, instead of on my end.

I'll poke about the log files to see if there's anything that points to a problem on my end.  It looks like I've served up about 8gig of newsreal files this month.. so someone is getting it.

Wog on, Driver.

Yeah it's odd as I used to be able to get them off of your mirror no problem.

Any technical information you need from me?

If it's worth anything I managed to grab the latest NewsReal with no problems whatsoever. Never had a problem with any of the others.

I run the latest Ubuntu with Firefox 3.0.1.

Could I get your IP address, and when abouts the last time you tried it was?  PM me (if it works. ha!) or email (in profile), if you'd prefer.  I'll take a look, and see if I can spot anything in the logs.

No, still no luck.  For my 'at home' internet I have to use Sprint's EV-DO network so I seem to have a Dynamic IP address.  I'll send it in PM since I don't need someone trying to fuck with my box while I'm not around.

When i was trying to load it onto my server from the download server I had to limit the speed to 50Kb/s to get it to finish.

I have got it on my server now http://www.kevinisageek.org/mirror/rantmedia/audio/newsreal/2008-08-11newsreal.mp3.

Weird.  I can pull it at about 220k reliably from home (thats as fast my connection will go).  I dunno what the malfunction is.  Sorry that I can't be of more help with this.  Undecided

also.. I checked my apache log, and I can see where a bunch of people are downloading the files, and I see where some aren't downloaded fully (16meg here, 32meg there).  However, I don't  see any errors as to why the connection might have dropped.  *Shrugs*  I'm not that much of a penguin head, so perhaps I'm missing something.

Okay as per suggestion I used the FireFox plug in 'DownLoadThemAll' to get the file.  Once again the file hung a few megs in but using DLTA's built in resume feature I was able to eventually complete the download.

I'm still curious as to WHY this glitch is occurring... but at least we have a work around.

A question for everyone that's having problems.... what ISP are you using?  I use Sprint's Mobile Boardband.

On my home connection I use BT Total Broadband but have no problems. No clue what the connection my web server with the mirror is using, hell, I don't know where it is.

I don't seem to be having a problem accessing the files, but I thought I'd throw out that using a download manager ( I use Free Download Manager ) sometimes has the option of multiple connections, and download resuming.

I say I don't 'seem' to have a problem, because if I do, the download manager is able to recover from it.

Just trying to bounce some ideas around Tongue

I haven't tried recently to get files from that mirror but I used to have the same issue. I'd get some of the file and them it would stall out and never complete.

I'm using SureWest I believe it is (that's what it seems my ISP uses). I've never been able to come up with an explanation why some people can get the files and some can't. My only guesses could be:
* Server issue
* ISP issues
* There could be a server between people and the file server that is fudging up everything.

Maybe someone who is having issues should do a traceroute and see if anything suspicious is happening.

For anyone wondering, I'm bowing out. It was great being here but I have to move on. I wish I could stay and keep contributing here but it just can't continue.

It was fun and I thank everyone for everything they have done.
