Another note I find interesting: How in some countries the barrel is 'the weapon' and in others it is the slide, and in the US it is the frame/reciever (at least on handguns).
In the United States, the legal "firearm" by definition is the receiver, where the action is housed and attached to the barrel.
In most of Europe, the Firearm means any part that can be identified with the gun, which includes the barrel, slide, frame, etc. I don't know the full nature of the law, but most firearms from europe have the serial number in at least these places, if not more.
In some ways, it makes sense, since the barrel is what puts the "ballistics signature" on the projectile, the slide (and thus the firing pin) are what put the "ballistic signature" on the shell casing...etc.
Different legal systems have different legal definitions.
That's why.
I'll have to remember this in case the US decides to implement similar laws.
Where were you for the 1994-2004 Assault Weapons Ban?? They already did that. Ironically, most folks didn't even realize they'd been fucked until they went to go buy a gun; By and large they all said, "Well, that's STUPID," but other than that, they did nothing. It was only because we had a Congress that was willing to again do nothing to reinstate the AWB that it sunset.
And now the silly liberals in the House and Senate, now that they have a voting majority again, are again, for the fourth year in a row, trying to push the same legislative butt-nuggets into law once again, this time without a sunset clause.
So, stay tuned, my friend...they're not deciding...they've actually DECIDED already and are looking for a chink in the armor.
Not too long ago I picked up a DPMS (LMT) for $135 ($150 after tax) to register with the atf (add $200). I wonder why they're more expensive in FL? okokok So I actually paid $350 out the door.
They're not more expensive in FL. Well, they're more expensive than they used to be. Charlie has the DPMS units for 169.99 right now...supply and demand.
And the 200 dollar registration fee is NOT for a Title I firearm, it's for a Title II; I can only assume that because it's an AR-15 receiver, that you are building an SBR. Not everyone will need to pay that Title II tax. I don't, because I don't build Title II weapons. I build plain old rifles.
I have only used DPMS lower build kits to assemble lowers. ...anyone have any suggestions for/against good lower parts kits? I'm looking for 2x more kits.
Stick to what works; DPMS (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Service) receivers and kits are decent enough; I've got a couple spares and they're of this brand.
The trick lately is actually getting your hands on them, not getting them backordered.
If they're in stock, go for it!
