My cold weather kit consists of
*Gore-tex lined Belleville boots
*THICK Wool socks
*Ripstop combat pants
*thermal underwear, preferably polypro
*British Combat Smock with an American field jacket liner buttoned inside
*Cherokee 2 piece jacket, it has 1 insulating layer and 1 outer shell
*Gloves....mittens if it is REALLY cold, or I am out for a long time
*ESS ICE 2.4's
*Touque/knit hat/beanie/watch cap/whatever the hell you wanna call it

Any body read Ranger Digests by Ranger Rick?  Also look to vapour barriers (plastic bags and neoprene gloves)  When I was "in" we used Neoprene Diving gloves (3mm) under our Leather Shells.  Worked great and for feet put nylon sock, wool sock, plastic bag, GI sock (poly blend) if wool doesnt't bother you then you can get rid of nylon sock
