I'm not a fan of gold either. I totally understand what you are saying, but I think if it got bad enough that the fiat was entirely useless, people would be too poor/unwilling to exchange for it. You can't eat gold.

I buy things at this moment, primarily medical supplies, guns and ammo. why? they will always be useful, always be in demand, you will always be able to trade em, and they may just save your life.

People will always trade for or with precious metals, history has proven this as a fact. Sure, you can't eat gold, but you can't barter ammunition very well with someone who can't use it or trade it immediately for what they do need.

I highly agree about meds, guns, and ammo. Those commodities would probably represent the majority of a bartering system, where gold might not be an effective bartering tool. In the long run though, gold will hold it's value a lot longer regardless of circumstances.

Commodities. Food. Ammo. Batteries. Be creative. By the way, why is there all this spam on the board of all of a sudden?

No clue. Just report and ignore, that's my standard procedure

I would buy myself an M16 receiver.... and donate the rest to Rant Radio.

EDIT:  Ya know, in hindsight it would be very very easy to blow $100K

Hey, uh, since you're buying an M16 receiver...maybe you could buy more than one?

Or, have Rant "earmark" the donation for "recreational weaponry" and we'll get ourselves about six M16's.

Good investment, especially now.

One way to take advantage of the corpolitical:  If Rant is a corporation, you could make the guns corporate property, which means any employee of Rant may legally possess/shoot said equipment.

Just thought I'd mention that.

Since i'm going down to the gunstore today (Ammo day!) I'll definitely be on the lookout for AR-15 receivers. I assume they'll be easier for me to get because theres no panic buying in Canada.

And magazines, I have a desperate need for magazines, and the stupid firearms centre refuses to answer my magazine import questions.

I'll quote you over on your gunstore thread to keep from derailing this one too badly.

well, i found a sweet cabin package prefab for $16grand to lockup. Its about 700-800 sq ft with a loft, and a high 20'+ ceiling in the living area. I figure another 20grand for fixtures, insulation, etc. Most of the construction i think i can handle myself, with a bit of help from a few friends in the construction industry.
A concrete basement under it for food storage and gun safe would be the best.

still lookin for a small piece of land... *sigh*

If I had 100 grand drop in my lap, I bet it would hurt Wink

Anyway, I would invest in some land away from any cities and get a simple home built and with any leftover try to get the place as self sufficient as possible.

However that's me.

You are not alone.  I suspect there are quite a few of us that that dream would fit.
