I like.. But for the 'cities in the sea' idea (basically what we've been wanting to do)  how will they fend off pirates?

Sean interviewed the guy behind this.  I don't remember which episode number it was.  Good interview, fascinating stuff.  I remember I stayed up all night mulling it over after I listened to it.  The guy is very idealistic, and I don't agree with everything he says, but it's interesting.

*edit*  Found it.  It's episode 12 of the SK radio show.

Shit, i remember that, wasn't sean trying to explain that theres always going to be crime, whether it be internal or by people attacking, and told the dude to give the wogs a call to sort shit out once they start taking fire? I laughed.

I wonder why they're selling the research center in Florida, is the project going bust?

I just called them and talked to Roxanne, I asked about why they were selling the research center in Flordia, she said that they were going to set up operations and a "Museum of the future" in Ecuador, they said they liked the land and found it beautiful so they decided to set up shop down there. They are not giving things up.

Museum of the Future. That's funny.

I think their whole focus is wrong. They are so focused on the money issue that they have missed the real issue: power. People will always crave power and control over others. I don't see any way around that, even with unlimited food, water, energy, and resources, there are those who will want power and that drive ruins nations.

What would happen if you only had people with your ideals in the project? Would others want your resources? Would you share them freely with anyone? What if they wanted more than their share? And what is to keep power seekers from coming in and/or being born into the society?

I give them full respect for suggesting a solution to the problems and corruption that have taken over the system. It seems to me that the resource based world would be just as easy for pirates to take control of. They would absolutely need a military force to protect themselves from the rest of the world because those who don't like the system wouldn't join it but might want their resources and tech. So what do you do with the outcasts and misfits, those who reject your perfect world, and yet want to rape and pillage it?

I keep thinking of the line from the Matrix where Agent Smith says they created a perfect world but the human species rejected it. At first they thought there was a problem with the program but it turned out to be the people that was the problem.

That may sound like I am being negative but I really do hope it works. I suppose you will never know until you put in action.

I somewhat agree with you Enloopious, that humans tend to be the problem in most systems.
