So...I've decided I'm going to get in shape in time for the 10th Anniversary of RantMedia.
I admit I currently weigh in at about 235lbs (107 kilos) and stand at 6'1" (1.85 meters). I have a gut. I'm gonna lose my gut before I show up at RantRadio's 10th. That is my goal. I'm going to eat healthier, make more of my own food, and exercise reguarly. (All things I've gotten away from, but been halfways working towards again)
I'm using Rant's 10th as my target date because it's not a date I can change - so I can't keep putting it off. Also, I'll be better in shape for kicking around Vancouver, and enjoying myself.
Who else wants to set a personal goal, of any kind, for Rant's 10th?

I've actually applied a weight loss goal to be reached by Rant's 10th myself. I'm at 177 lbs right now, and 5'6". I've started cooking at least twice a day and reduced the amount of junk food I take in to about 1/8th of what it used to be. Hopefully I'll reach my goal of losing 25 lbs.
Good luck with your own goal, too.

Hey, I'm on the same boat brother...I even signed up for the LA marathon on Feb so that it gives me a goal date to train. Before I started training my goal was to run a mile without puking...now I can do about 5 miles every day and I'm aiming at running 10 straight miles for the marathon and after I can finish walking, crawling or get dragged the rest of the way. Ether way, I figure I'll be in top wog condition by rant's 10th.
Among other goals...To Build more cool shit!!
with school and work I haven't been able to build anything cool, my lab table (kitchen table) is filled with abandoned and half done projects, my cluster is only a large pile of old computers looking all sad in the corner and I have more scavenged DC motors than I can count...I miss the feel of a screw driver in one hand and a cheap soldering iron in the other...not to mention the toxic smell of solder fumes...mmmmm lethal lead fumes.
Another goal...To Travel!
I have to go to at least one different country every year...and hey! Canada counts! so I'll already start the new year in good shape.

Baroo?! What kinds of things do you generally build? I am about 75% of the way through my second balancer robot, and just finished a PID mod for my Espresso machine, and a custom lightbar for using a Wiimote (sans wii) on my Linux media center. Always interested in getting hyped/inspired by other peoples projects...

What kinds of things do you generally build? basically anything that can move and be controlled by a PIC microcontroller... Last toy I finished was a solar tracker for a mini-Stirling generator (tracking system is done but just sitting there sine I don't have the Stirling geny ) nothing fancy but worked pretty well...it was supposed to be my senior project but my partner (mechanical guy) bailed out so it was never finished. I built a few small robots, used the basic stamps a lot, they're simple to program and plenty of guides and docs out on the internet. I haven't had the cash but I like the gumstix, I'll get my hands on one of those soon. Right now I'm planing to build a small walking robot, I've never built one of those, I want to use a modified Theo Janse's 11 segment design for the legs...probably use the BSII. A more ambitious project is a urban challenge type go kart...but I have to wait till the big bux start flowing for that one, I definitely need to build something like that one day.

Coolah! I have been thinking about the same thing, but on a medium scale (think 20 pounds of solar steam engine with vapor reclamation). Very neat project idea to do it with a sterling! I have a CNC though, so my projects tend to get a little complicated I built a few small robots, used the basic stamps a lot, they're simple to program and plenty of guides and docs out on the internet. I generally do Arduino based stuff. Fastest programming lifecycle evar. I have a gumstix, but it is not generally necessary to have that much power on most of my projects. Arduino is a single easy to use IDE and a really powerful base library, plus the ability to write C/C++ for anything more complicated. If you are into urban challenge, check out the robo-magellan rules, as they are a little more financially realistic. I have a balancer I just started working on again myself, and got the chassis and IMU finished this week. I just need to finish the wheel encoders and I'll probably have it up and running. It'll be my second balancer, so I am pretty confidant with it.

I have a CNC though, so my projects tend to get a little complicated Sad Dude! thats awesome...I'm trying to have access to the school's machine shop but I need to take a class before they let me use any of the equipment. I'll be honest, I only know how to use the old school milling machine but I would love to learn to use all the other fun toys they have. They have all kinds of CNC and fast prototyping machines, those are pretty neat. I've seen a few projects online with the Arduino, I'll check prices to see if I can get one soon to start playing with. The gumstix does seam to be over kill for most of the things I do, but it just looks so freakin kwel! On the Robomagellan thing...looks perfect for what I wanted to do, Its a good place to start, I'm looking at the rules and trying to locate the closest competition to my town. kinda reminds me of the micro-mouse competitions we did a while back, we could never get the dam thing to work on the day of the competition but this seams more practical. How did the first balancing bot work out?

Here is the CNC:
http://www.youtube.com/v/aqiS1vBB-Pg&rel=1(Hmmm. are video embeds broken again?) Fixed! And the newer robot... http://armyofevilrobots.com/node/479?size=preview. This is a side view with the servo and the solid state gyro/accelerometer IMU module. I am waiting for hardware in the mail The original balancer had some issues with being too short and heavy for it's motors, which is why this new one is so lightweight. It would only balance for a few seconds, and was WAY too complicated (arms, shoulders, etc...). Video as soon as this one is up and running, which will hopefully be in a few days.

Basically, my goal by the Rantmeet, is to get rid of the extra 25-30 pounds I have, and get to where I can do a set of 50 pushups/situps without blowing my body apart.
The weight loss goal is on track to be met by Nov 1st. Didn't want to try and go nuts with it, and try to burn it all off in a month.

Ironically enough, I plan to GAIN 10 pounds. I'm 5'10" and 130 lbs, so I am very slim. i'm fit though, and can carry alot more than my own weight, but ir really wouldn't hurt to have that little bit more bulk on my side. Even more ironically, how i plan to do it.. Pushups and situps, lots of them The theory is simple: eat more food (healthy, of course) and work out more vigorously, in theory I should build more muscle without gaining fat. Any tips from another string bean like me?

That was awesome. Love the arduino and relay board shot at the end. Hey Enki...you've probably seen this but just in case.

Thought you'd get a kick out of it.
