So speaking about the death of the Internet, Comcast has come out and said it will implement it's official bandwidth cap of 250gigs a month. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/30/technology/30comcast.html?emWhile I think that 250 gigs would be enough, at least for me at least for now (I don't actually have Comcast) I am worried about the direction they are heading with things like this. While comcast's limit is very huge, many other ISPs have limits that are in the 5 gig range. I mean come on, I piss 5 gigs before breakfast. If ISPs are going to advertise "break neck speeds of 5 megs a second download" they need to include "but for only 1000 seconds." Other than that, it seems like false advertising. If I'm going to pay for a 24/7 connection, I'm going to try to use it 24/7.

Paying for 8Meg here, but only getting 5 until they decide to upgrade the local exchange. They keep trying to get us to move onto one of the more profitable contracts. The ones with bandwidth caps.
I2 is a scary beast. Any change of tunnelling older IPs within it?
It's that or P2P packet-data over shortwave, unless we want to have a short-lived data island like France's home-brew internetwork.

I have a feeling that the ever increasing down pressure on the amount of information that is flowing over the internet.
When a corporate state cannot control over some thing, what happens? If they continue to cut down the amount of bits flying over the internet from 250Gigs per month to 40 Gigs per month (the Beaumont, Texas Time Warner current experiment.) and any gigs over that is $1 per gig, what do you think would happen?
No, I do not think every connection should be a free fall download-p2p-1 Terabyte cable-dsl and there should be some control.. One of the problems with Comcast is the secrecy that they operate their network. Time Warner and other unbelievable dsl providers that are limiting people.
So what do you guys feel about a corporate controlled Internet 2?

That one works. I do want to say that I downloaded the 128K version (120 megs) and I spent the next 90 minutes almost near wetting my pants laughing. These two chuckleheads have me laughing like Sci did. :-)
I'm getting to the Internet 2 part. Seems to be an interesting concepts your bringing up.That part of the conversation starts about 70 to 80 minutes.
I'll have more to say tomorrow when I have had some sleep.

I just got my homebrewing podcast nixed over trying to tell the public about this. (my fault) I wish we had more infowarriors doing more programs. I had subscribers in over 10 countries. They do make a difference when it comes to free information.... but again back to the very beginning of the thread, the free information isn't enough. We need real action, and it does seem as though the bulk of the populace is content to pretend it isn't happening (whatever it is unless it's the next episode of fucking american idol)
Makes one feel occasionally hopeless and sometimes enraged... and sometimes just puzzled. (p.s.- new podcast coming called NSR: Non-Servium Radio- I may have it up in a weeks time.)

Well, I have no idea what you're talking about in regards to the beer news but you've got an entertaining podcast there nonetheless. I look forward to your new series, post the link here when you've got it ready. What equipment do you use? Your podcast sounds great.

Thanks, Man. The store owners had me pull the last episode that covered the death of the internet, and I still don't know if they are gonna force me to discontinue it altogether, but yeah, fuckit... I'll just move on into stronger territory. I use a good MXL 990 mike w/ preamp into Audacity for the initial recording, Then I use Cubase SX3 for all the post production and mixing. Glad you dig.

NonServiam Radio pilot podcast has flown. Enjoy. (Diablo couldn't make the deadline with the Bail-out bag segment- he'll be in there next week.) http://nonserviamradio.podbean.com/
