I'm thinkin a tarp that snaps down, when you roll it out you just turn a bucket upside down in the box to shed water.

On the subject of growing food, recently a good friend of mine, longtime activist and farmer-pirate wrote this article entitled: "seeds, now more valuable than gold or oil". It is to appear in several radical gardening publications. I got an advanced copy.
It's a long read but absolutely essential for anybody who plans on eating in the future.

Dude, Alemaker, that video was great.  Very entertaining.  Your plants and beds are looking pretty good, you must have been busy.  I liked the layout of your greenhouse, how you have stuff growing on the sides, then a walkway, then stuff growing in the middle, very cool.  You forgot to mention, you had one thing going on that I wish I had going on, SUN.  It's cold and rainy still up here, and we just had a big storm this past weekend.  I have been reluctant to put my tomatoes or peppers out yet, let alone sew any of my other seeds.  Been leveling my backyard, it's not very flat, per say.  I have about 50sqft more to do, then I am heading down and getting some landscaping rocks, and building a little raised flower bed for some of my planting this year.  Maybe when I get that in, my seeds sewn, and some sun, I will take a quick video of it.  Again, Alemaker, very good and entertaining video.

Anarchist Chicken Coup - built entirely from free hardwood palettes (minus the 8  2X4's, also reclaimed): Cost to date: approx. $50 (screws, plexi, hardware, chickenwire, T-posts)
Just helped a guy clean out his barn loft and got enough free cedar shakes (shingles) to do the whole roof & exterior.
Going to insulate the crap out of it for this winter- houses 8 laying hens very comfortably. $30/ month spent on eggs now becomes $30 profit/ month on egg sales.
...more photos to come...

Poverty is definately a great inspiration. Unfortunately, it also sucks ass.  Smiley

Was checking out your updated garden pics, looking pretty good man.  I got my garden planted last week, and it's looking ok now.  I say ok because I started a bunch of tomatoes and peppers inside under lights, then moved them outside, but they are dieing.  On the bright side, I planted a row of : corn, peas, and beans which just came up the other day some I'm stoked about that.  I also got some 3 pumpkins, 2 watermelons, and 2 cucumber mounds that just sprouted, so I'm happy.  But I really expected my tomatoes and peppers to do better.  If they don't make it, well, there is always next year.

AleMaker: Thanks for the posts.  This year won't be the year to plant because of a hectic travel schedule this summer between the place and family because of various events.

Sucks but four months of traveling is just the way it is this year. Hoping next year to find a garden plot area and see what I can come up with. Keep up the good work and keep teaching us all about your wonderful ideas. ;-)

Thanks, folks for all of your interest- updated the chix coup above and garden pics on pg. 1 today. Super-humid weather has brought us a battle with blight that we appear to be winning with baking soda solution and weather changes... learning which potato varieties (out of 4 we planted) are more blight resistant than others. Lots of work. Rock on- wog-out.

Now there's an expression that I never thought that I would hear ... "blight resistant".
I wonder if they will ever use such terms to describe human breeds.

"Blight resistant"  Boy that I could use that in some many horrible and infectious ways...   Grin

Blight prone is the order of the day. Summed up in the term "entropy" perhaps.

IE the entropy inherent in human society.

So this is an infection or disease of a plant?  And how does one take care of it?
