While i cant speak for full on outlast you and your loved ones rugged, i do have an old lexar secure2 (which i ended up deleting the secure 2 software from as it wasn't that good) drive that has made it out of five wash and dry cycles, being stepped on a few times and and drops from various heights due to my being clumsy and it's still working as solidly as the day i got it, a bit scuffed up mind you

but it's an old 512 i bought two or so years back so i cant speak for the newer incarnations of the drive

buy a few cheap ones.
you can lose them and break em so easy.
i dont trust them compared to something compacted.

basically any pen drive would be pretty rugged, since they are small and solid state. water proof would be my biggest concern, and you can make any of those waterproof by melting some hot glue and dipping the unit in the glue, leaving the usb connector exposed of course.

I've heard good things about this one. Although it's more on the expensive side.

Thank you for posting that.  That was the one Sean talked about in a NewsReal broadcast that I was trying to find and recommend.  If anyone has any experience using this thumbdrive I would like to hear it as I am considering purchasing it (now that I found it again:)

just a heads up, the PNY attache series tends to break out of its casing.  I've had 2 myself of different styles that have broken and know of several more that have.
