Ok, so I am looking into water filtration products for home use and have decided that reverse osmosis is the way to go.  So I was planning on getting a reverse osmosis system with a carbon filter to grab all of the organics.  Is there a more efficient way to purify water in your home, because the only other options that I have seen are water conditioners or standard filters.  The problem with the water her is that it has alot of minerals and metals in it because it's well water.  Should I perhaps have the water professionally tested and then make my decision?

look no further than the The APEC RO-45.http://www.waterfiltersonline.com/apec-ro-45.asp (I don't sell them, don't worry)- absolutely the best deal we could find- great customer service, great product, awesome price ( I still sound like I sell them but I fucking don't)

I have a family of 3 and it works great - it fits under the kitchen sink- great results, and VERY cheap as RO goes.

The APEC RO-45 appears to be a pretty good system.

One thing you have to remember though when looking at water filtration systems how long will the filters last and how much do the filters cost you to replace.  Because this can really eat up a lot of cost and longer run.  Especially if you end up with filters that need to be replaced frequently and or cost a considerable amount to replace. and if you have a lot of minerals in the water you may also want to look into getting a water softening unit for your house.

This was the main criteria for choosing this model- Ro membrane lasts over 2 years, and they threw extra prefilters in, so we don't have to replace anything for 2 years.

Has anyone found a personal water filtration system combined in a stainless steel type water bottle?

I would like to have a water bottle that automatically fillters my water without use of tablets/iodine/other things that make it taste bad.

I have found this but have not been able to find many others like it.

I use the Katadyn Exstream XR, similar style bottle.

Not stainless steel though, I haven't seen one like that. I'd be surprised if you found one like that because generally you need a squeezing action to force the water through the filter.

You could always get a Guyot Designs Stainless Steel bottle and then a water filter that threads onto the top (the Katadyn Vario might work). They wouldn't fit inside each other but they could be used together.

As well as sanitized.
