I don't have any experience doing this kind of thing, the largest event I setup was a LAN party with under 20 people, but I would be willing to help if anyone wants to own it. I guess we would need to pick a few things before we started. I think pretty much every hotel in Vegas has an area for groups to meet up. What would we need?
1. Estimated attendance 2. Number of events 3. Number of rooms 4. Prizes and Give aways 5. Bus or other transport for outside group events (field trips) 6. Dates. I would think June is a good time because it wont conflict with the January meet in Canada.
Sponsorship?
We would need to form a team of volunteers after we figure out how many it takes to run something like this. Would we need to get rooms or leave it up to the people going? The first annual WOG-con is likely to be a smaller number of attendees but who knows. If Sean and Cimm attend it would definitely be a green light for more.
Rooms: Film Room, Demo Room, Talk Room (anything else?)
And how many days would it be? (3 days 2 nights?)
Also, the hotels need to know the purpose of the meeting and the groups orientation: Business, Association, Leisure and for orientation I chose military (maybe we'll get a discount)
You fill out the Request For Proposal and the LVCVA sends it out to all of the hotels. Those hotels with openings on the chosen date respond with offers and prices, (I am guessing, I didn't actually send off the form because I don't have the numbers yet.)
Convention Centers range in the 10,000+ level so I am thinking Hotel Meeting areas which are between 500 - 500,000 people areas.
...Just a thought but, wouldn't it be much more wog to set it up out of doors? Get a few large tents and a patch of desert and some power generators and away we go.

We could be a Wog version of Burning Man.
Interesting concept. We could probably learn a lot from attending Burning Man. I've never been.

PROSLess Cost, Less publicity, More WOG-orientated, Easier to Organize, Easier to bring items that indoor areas tend to frown upon. Easier to show outdoor based things CONSHarder to show electronic based displays, though would be good practice for SHTF. Please add to the pro and con list if you like, I am not the best of thinking of cons today (hehe no pun intended.)

If it its way out in the middle of nowhere, how is transportation going to be arranged for a SHTF like event?
Yeah, there are some who would like to come that cannot drive or do various thing, so I would say keep it in a more populated area as people from out-of-town are going to want to come from the McCarren to the event close by.

Perhaps we could arrange tranport, or make it in a park near certain public transit or somewhere clsoe to a major greyhound bus route to make it doable for everyone. I'm glad you brought this up becuase I am currently not in possession of a car and this would make it hard to get around.

I would assume that transportation would be dependent upon the actual location. Who knows, we could have scheduled "Wog Convoys" from the airport for incoming folks, or, on a more grandiose scale, we could arrange for shuttle-bus transportation if appropriate. It all depends on how big it's going to be. In Liberty, 2X

We could always rotate locations of the main event from outdoors to inside ever year.
It sounds like we just need volunteers to sign up for doing booths. I will as soon as I think of something.

We could make the location encrypted GPS coords and only those who broke the code could attend. Of course the encryption key would be something like WOG or RANT but we wouldn't publish it.
Shuttle runs could be coordinated. Everyone going could give ETAs and the shuttle would only have to go when people landed. We could take turns driving so each person only had to drive the bus once, leaving the rest of the time for the con.
There would be no booths. All you need is a tent and you set it up yourself. Of course there would be a few larger tents for the main events and someone has to take care of sanitation. Port-a-potties?

At first, reading this I felt that encrypting the location would leave a lot of the less crypto-savvy WOGs in the dust. However, the genius is that if someone is unable to decrypt the location, but knows WOGs in their area who have unscrambled it, they have to group together, or at the very least get in contact. So it's not just about hiding the location, it's about fostering teamwork and getting to know your fellow WOGs as well, in the same way that there's a physical WOG key, but the bitting's not published.

How about a virtual Wog Con?
This would require someone establishing the curriculum, then others (each an "expert" in the field) could record a series of lectures on the topics (audio or video) and create on-line exams.
Bad idea?
BTW: expert = "ex spurt" ex = has-been spurt = drip under pressure
