Not sure how well it would work or if it would even be done. Not sure if its a good idea or not. I was sent to this site by a friend: http://revision3.com/watch/Got an idea, how about all independent survival/wog based media be gathered and turned into a online television station? Yea I know there's Rant Media, however there already is a lot on it and Cimm is probably really busy with it. I was thinking more of a community based TV station with live news along with other live/pre-recorded shows. Opinions?

It's a great idea - the more availability the better. There's got to be loads of media that fits into the definition, and if you make it clear on the channel that you want material - it could well enlighten and help activate lots of people.
Have some karma, dude!

Well, for between $15 and $100 a month we could have true live streaming.
However, for free (plus cost of any bandwidth) we could have a streaming flash player thingy similar to what Youtube uses.
I have the player now and have it set up for testing. However, all video that goes into it MUST be in .flv format. A way to do this is host it on Archive.org
At this time the playlist consists of... R4anger5 tv video 000.
Opinions on a flash based video "stream" with the videos hosted on archive.org or anywhere in .flv format?

btw, heres a preview of the player for anyone to comment on.... http://teraalpha.com/video/at this time, to add a video, you have to edit an xml file and include a direct link to a .flv file and a link to a thumbnail.

The only issue with streaming media or flv for that matter is that its a very grainy format thats difficult to store. Even by going to a place like www.keepvid.org and pulling down the youtube media, you still end up with a really crappy show. Its not something I would personally want to watch over and over. Unlike the patrolling stuff which is great, even after a number of years. I think its best to invest in something better and actually create something of a little better resolution. This often brings home the message far more. There is nothing worse than guessing at what the guy is saying just because the media is so darn awful. My two cents worth.

Well since we're distributing the media ourselves we can offer a link to a higher quality for download.

<bumps..> So how is the idea going? Sounds like a wonderful start.
Does archive.org have limits on the amount of bandwith that it will transmit? Costs?

I don't think so. Though I've never really tried to upload something really big.. However, I see large files on there all the time.

<bumps..> So how is the idea going? Sounds like a wonderful start. Been quite busy recently, not had time to do much. If someone has a place to host the html and xml for the player, I'll send it for them to host and such but they would have to (or find someone else to) edit the xml file as needed. I just don't have the time right now to do so.

Something we talked about last night on Newsgather was that, well youtube fails in that it's not social at all. If we were to do this I'd prefer the streaming approach. Something like ustream.tv where a streaming video (or video list) is being played with a group chat on the side so we can get realtime communications and comments going. A free flow of information and ideas. Honestly we can all stick the videos on archive.org or hell even youtube. So personally I dont see a reason to create our own youtube, however I do like the idea of an updated rantTV.

It's not a bad idea, but Revision 3 has financial backing in the way of advertisers. I don't want to get into that realm of things, so i wonder how the cost will be.
