Anybody watch the new super humans show on Sci/Discovery channel? I saw it the other day and this is what I got from it: In the next 10-15 years we are going to be able to alter our own DNA and direct our evolution.
They were gathering people with extraordinary abilities like photo-memory, resistant to cold, super math calculating brain, etc. These people donated DNA so that the scientists could try to figure out what markers cause these abilities. With this info, they could modify ANYONES DNA so that they had those abilities.
They could modify embryos so that your kids would have super abilities based on how much you could afford. In a Brave New World like scenario, Aldous Huxley is decomposing for joy somewhere right now.
The scientists said that they could also take an animal (like a pig) and fuse your DNA to its ass and grow an arm out of it. This way, if you lost a limb, you could grow another one out of the animal and then cut it off the animal and affix it to you.
To demonstrate how powerful the tech is, they took 2 animals and crossed their DNA to form a whole knew species. The mouse and apodemus are further apart than humans are from chimps but they mixed without any problems. Whats next? Centuars and hippogriffs?
To be fair, if you get to the point of being able to do that and you're still growing limbs on other animals instead of in petri dishes, you're just doing it to torture small animals.
