Okay I would like to know the programs that everyone (yeah Sean you too) uses for making the audio distortions and sound effects in afternow.

This is also for everyone that has had thoughts about making Afternow stories but don´t know what software to use.

I use Audacity and an 'acquired' version of Goldwave. I like Audacity because of it's simplicity, and it's bare-bones design (I.E. If you know what your doing you can do anything)
Audacity even comes with a static generator... but I usually just record my clock-radio set to AM and play around with it.

Soundtrack Pro for the Mac and Audition (has multi-track functions) for Windows are decent audio recording/editing programs, as is Audacity. Not sure about sound effects though.. Probably best off finding samples online.

Hmmm well I have wavelab on my comp and maybe I could just look for samples on the net......

Anyway it´s is not me saying that I will make a spin-off on afternow, it´s still very much in the idea state right now.

I used Cool Edit Pro (now Adobe Audition, but it's missing a critical plugin I use) for Afternow. Most of the noises were created from external sources like tuning in a radio just off a station etc..

Most sound effects you hear in movies are either from sound effects CDs or they're created by the foley people. Check out the special edition of Lord Of The Rings for excellent behind the scenes of making sound effects.

I've done some foley work before, you need:

a 'shotgun' mic (preferably with a 'foxtail' type windscreen..)
an xlr to 1/8" adapter cable
a digital audio recorder with external mic input

creativity, time and patience..

But it's a lot of fun!
