I've always wondered what video editing software you use to edit all the video of Rant Media. Would you be willing to reveal it to everyone?

Not sure what Cimm uses, but on windows i was a fan of adobe premier, on linux i use cinlerra almost exclusively (cinelerra is free open source BTW) on mac os x I use final cut. Across all three platforms another free open source video editor that looks promising is Jahshaka. Looks really slick, but very steep learning curve.

Premier and Final cut are hella expensive, there are other free video editors (windows movie maker, imovie.. *shudder*) but i'm a videophile, i can't stand that kind of software.

I'm well versed in Adobe Premiere and Premiere Pro on Windows, I'm still learning the ropes on Final Cut Pro for the Mac but there's a lot of similarities.

I'm currently on Windows with Premiere but will be moving to Mac with Final Cut Pro soon or if I can find a decent editor in Linux then I'll try that out.

I've been hearing a lot about Mac being good for multimedia editing, how is it better than lets say linux or windows?

windows has a lot of paid programs that a lot of people swear by. linux has some edited that a lot of people say are awesome (me personally, i have not been able to get ANY video editor working under linux yet). never used mac so cant say with them.

windows movie maker, imovie..
These are good for Mom and Pop making a collection of home movies and picture video slided shows. But, not good if you want a more professional looking job. Myslef, I am thinking of making my own show like patrolling with my own rants and raves and some tech stuff, and maybe some stuff that I find on the internet.

The paid software is very powerful and is hard to rival, but the Mac hardware or operating system itself is not really innately better in my experience. Use the operating system that has the software you want.  I wanted the paid audio and video software for the Mac, so I bought one. That was several years ago now.

The only Linux editors i know of that are at any professional quality are cinelerra and jahshaka. Cinelerra is a pain in the ass to install, typically even after a successful install it requires alot of configuration of various dependancies and even sometimes the kernel to keep it from crashing. My advice: get a livecd with cinelerra on it to test if it's worth the effort.

Jahshaka is high powered, fairly easy to install, but is so completely 180 degrees different from traditional video editing software, you'll need to learn to use keyboard shortcuts for almost everything. nice editor, learning curb is too steep to be worth my time when i can just use final cut pro over here.

Holy cow, I just decided to check on the cost of Premiere Pro CS3 (latest I guess) and its almost $800!

Am I the only one who thinks that's a bit overpriced?

I haven't had the chance to play with it yet, but I did see that some video editing software by the name of LiVES made its way onto getdeb recently (a popular website for packages specifically for ubuntu) and for what it's worth, it boasts a much larger download count than any of the other programs in its category

all things considered, it looks very attractive and I would say it's worth taking a look at
