Just wondering, how is our "ranter level" determined? the possibilities i can think of are

-Post count
-Time since we registered
-Overall amount of time spent online
-Karma count

Just curious as to how it works with these forums, thanks.

I'm sure it's post count. Maybe a mix of post and karma.

well, i can rule out the ones based around time. I signed up a couple days after the forum was made and there are people who spent more overall time online than me, and they are still level 1's. so it has to do wit heither count or karma, or both like you said.

It's post count. It's just a fun thing to have. I think most forums have that functionality built in so you know who is really active on the boards.

Cool, thanks. I kind of figured that, almost every forum on the planet uses the postcount ranking system. I have seen one based around how long you have been a member and one based around the karma point things (i think on that forum it was 'brownie points'

Your ranter level goes up at 25 posts, I think.

But does anyone know how Karma works (outside of the metaphysical sense, I mean)? I think it has to dowith the times your have been applauded/smited, but can you find out who gave you an applaud/smite?

I would assume you wouldn't know who smoted you, just because it would turn into a big smote-fest and everyone's ratings would go down for no good reason. I've had it happen on other forums, no fun.

I don't think Karma has any bearing on anything, just a general rating when people click on [applaud]  [smite] under your name. I'm not sure that people can click on either more than once and keep adding up your Karma level, people either hold you in favour or they don't.

Probably a good indicator of how people feel about other people's posts.

I think that it provides a good method for mass banning assholes later on, but I hope that we'll never need to do anything like that Wink

You can smite or applaud the same user again. I think it's under the condition of waiting 24 hours before your next applaud or smite, or it could be if you give karma to a different post of the same user but I think it’s the 24 hour rule.

Here's the link from the actual SMF page about Karma and it's pretty much how we think it is:

But we're not counting the old forums, eh?

Why would you need that level Mephyt?  Or is it an imaginary RR level?
