Hey all; the forum may be down for a short time on the evening of Nov 6 2006 due to some important maintenance. I expect the work to occur between 8PM and 11PM PST on this date.

No new features will be added, no posts will be deleted. We are just upgrading the SMF software to fix a few minor bugs, and to fix a security hole.

Note: While the random # leakage is a problem on win32 platforms, no known exploit exists for unix platforms. I am only upgrading since this system runs on a VM, and I am concerned about the possibility of attacks against the VM's random number generator since the clock on the VM is far more granular than on a normal UNIX machine (and therefore provides less entropy).

Exploit: http://www.milw0rm.com/exploits/6392

UPDATE: The work has been delayed til tomorrow. I found a bug in the patchset from the upstream provider, and need to fix it before I apply it.

Patch was modified and applied. Please let me know in this topic if you run into any bugs, especially in the PM area.
